LETTER

Hallo readers,
Thank you very much for waiting me, I enjoyed your letter. I have received many letters from your country who read “Hello English Magazine”. So far I think about fifty letters.
I am 13 years old and in the eight grade at Centennial Junior High School. We have three grades in my school: seventh, eighth, and ninth. My hobbies are talking on the telephone to my friends and listening to music on the radio. I also like to do many crafts, I make teddy bears by hand and embroider.
I don’t speak your language and I haven’t been to your country, though I would like to. I am learning Spanish in school. I have been taking it for two years.
I live in a small city at the edge of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. Off and all winter we get lot of snow. I don’t snow-ski but many people do in our state. The Rocky Mountains cover several states around us.
Right now it is the month of December. Outside the leaves are gone from the trees and there is snow on the ground. Everyone is getting ready for the Christmas holiday when we exchange presents and decorate a large evergreen tree. School children like this holiday because they can be with their family and I’ll be visiting my grandmother and grandfather in Dallas, Texas. My grandfather is the one who wrote a letter in “Hello Magazine”.
I thank you again for waiting me and I hope to receive more letter in the future.

TOHOSHINKI - With All My Heart

The shirt’s button, reflected in the mirror, hangs wrongly
Such a trivial thing, if you were here, I’d (think) be glad
In the time that we can’t see each other, our love strengthens
Though (I) busily pass by the waiting days,
even so, just like this…like this…
I want to see you, I will always think of you
From my heart
Once more-my heart-I want to give [transfer] it to you.
If you _(call?)_, I will go (be there)
To laugh by your side
No matter what kind of day it is I will always think of you
From my heart
Now, once again-your heart-I won’t let it go
If you cry, I will go (be there)
I want to always protect you
If you wish
I will strive(?) for everything
I want to realize that eternal dream
No matter how many times -too heart- my smile for you
In sadness, in happiness, I (With all my heart)
I’ll be there for you
No matter what I’ll be there for you want to laugh by your side

THE TWO SIDES OF SHERINA

“Lalu senyum mu menyadarkan ku
Kau cinta… pertama dan
terakhirku…”
You may heard this song so often on TV or radio lately. Nice song isn’t it? You will find this song, “Cinta Pertama Dan Terakhir,” on Sherina’s lately album, Gemini. We were lucky to have an opportunity to meet and interview her on one of her busy days promoting the album. And this is what she says about
Sherina looked and felt tired which she finally admitted just a few minute before the interview ended whe she come to C’nS Magazine. However, she answered all our questions clearly an in depth, and went throuhg the photo session professionally. Yes Sherina has grown up from little Sherina in Petualangan Sherina to a young lady who sees music as her job.
She has also proved that she takes her professional career seriously by releasing her second album, Gemini. Why Gemini? Like other geminis, “There are two sides to my personality,” she says. She tries to portray both in her songs on this album, as well as on the cover, which shows her both boyish and girly at the same time; casual rebellious but beautiful. “I’m a real Gemini; stubborn and moody. I felt especially in the making of this album.”
The album itself is expected to be widely accepted without her loosing her roots. “My music is not serious, but maybe some people see it that way because they expect music to be songs they can enjoy and sing along to easily with friends. My music comes from heart. Besides, I’m a perfectionist, and when I’m  working on a song, if possible it has to have all the stuff needed to make it perfect.” The end result is Gemini, which is complete in term of music. With her above average knowledge of music, this young talented composer has successfully produced ten excellent songs for this album; all were written and arranged by herself except for one song. “Gregetan” was written by her father, Triawan Munaf, in the 1980’s and rearranged for her album. “Ayah didn’t know how this song turned out until this album was launched. After he heard it, he asked me to make it the second single.”
Of all the songs on her album, “Simfoni Hitam,” which was recorded in two versions with respectively band and orchestra, has become her favorite. She imagine that this song will be the theme of a wide screen film, since her dream now is to make a musical film. And with this purpose in mind, Sherina plans to continue her study at Berklee College of Music in Boston. She wants to take Film Scoring music to be used with visual media as her major to fulfill her passion for music and film. “I have been in love with film scoring since I was I child. I learnt that when the music on a film is turned off, the audience won’t be emotionally involved. So music plays an important role in a film.” Her two songs “Jalan Cinta” and “Ku Bahagia” featured as soundtracks of two box office movies, Ayat-ayat Cinta and Laskar Pelangi are the last two tracks on this album.
